I mentioned prior that I do like the new Market Summary as a starting point. It has some "new" indicators like Daily and Weekly Streak on some panels. New Highs and Lows also is a flexible visual. It would be nice to be able to "hide" panels that are not of interest. Maybe at some point.

I also like having access to the other common summary and drill downs using the links accross the top of the page. They added a Timeframe preference recently. The selection here uses that time frame for many other panel performance values. So you get the Equities panel showing the 1 year returns, if you select One Year from here.

I also noticed, don't know if it's new, a tab for Daily and a tab for Weekly New Highs and New Lows.

So if a New High today, it shows in the Daily New Highs. If it showed a New High for the Week but not today, it shows in the Weekly tab and not the Daily.

Could be a place to look for pullbacks off new highs if so inclined.

It would be nice if they added more hover over symbol thumbnails. It would be nice to have the Streaks be applied consistently accross the panels that should allow it.

I mentioned prior that Column widths are a bit out of control. Columns width should be based upon the largest expected value plus a margin bumper on each side. The DATE columns are a perfect example of excessive column width. The date data values are always going to be 10 characters YYYY-MM-DD. The DATE column width is much larger than necessary on all panels. The streak columns also suffer from excessive width. But it's a work in process so we'll see. I think the world is formatting for mobile display so perhaps it's just how it is gonna be. I don't Market Summary on my cell.

p.s. Looks like New Lows have dried up, eh?

Nasdaq fell yesterday to the 20-month average and has dropped from its highest by 73% in 2001, 55% in 2009 and 32% in 2020. S&P did not fall to the 20-month average yet and sits above it by 7% and has dropped from its highest by 51% in 2001, 57% in 2009 and 35% in 2020. I believe the next bottom after they break below the 20-month average will be at the trend line that connects the low of 2009 to the low of 2020 which would show 9,000 for Nasdaq and 2,750 for S&P or a drop from highest by 44% for each. This interestingly matches with Fibonacci's last level for Nasdaq at 8,643 and S&P at 2,743 when it is calculated from the low in 2020 to the highest in 2021. Please give me your opinion on my post to help this old man decide on what to do in this volatile market.

I would be very interested if someone could explain to me why there is such a significant price drop in price for the GameStop stock on an hourly chart without a corresponding significant increase in trade volume according to this chart? I would think that significant drop in price would correspond with significant increase in sell volume when all the people holding this GME stock decide to take profits while they still can, but I do not see obvious increase in trade volume. By the way, I notice same pattern with other securities as well where I see significant changes in price, but without corresponding obvious changes in trade volume. Intuitively it makes sense that significant changes in price would correlate with significant changes in trade volume, but quite often I just do not see this relation reflected on charts. I would appreciate if someone could explain what is the reason for this behavior.

Grayson's post this week is about selecting stocks by drilling down through Sector Summary to Industry Summary to industry chart lists.

One of the comments on Youtube is that you can't easily put a summary page into candleglance. All the drill down pages allow you to see the sector etf charts in candleglance, but not the industry or stock summary pages.

I agree it would be a tremendous improvement to have a the appropriate candleglance option on each type of summary page. But until then, as a substitute for the complex workaround the Youtube contributor described, you could create industry lists up front. These would be viewable in candleglance right away. It takes an effort to set up the lists, but it eliminates the rigamarole of creating ad hoc lists each time you do a review that interrupts your flow of thinking.

Some subscribers may not be able to create a separate list for every industry without eliminating some existing lists, due to the list limit.

You can add lists for each industry from the advanced scan page just by selecting the industry from the Sector and Industry drop down, running the scan and saving the results in a list (there will be a problem with some industries, like Banks, or Biotech, that have more that 500 symbols).

The catch with that approach is it can get a lot of very small or illiquid stocks that you wouldn't consider trading. Here's a link to a previous post where I copied in a scan of mine that allows you to specify some characteristics of the stocks you want to trade, by removing (or adding back) the "//" in front of any line.

https://scan.stockcharts.com/discussion/1948/creating-maintaining-and-ranking-industry-lists

Note this was posted some time ago, so some industries may have been added or removed or re-categorized (changed Sectors). You can get current industries from the Sectors and Industries drop down and edit the scan.

I have seen articles over the years about technical approaches ('rules-of-thumb?') to extrapolate from prior price patterns and estimate the likely extent of a rally. With the S&P 500 in consolidation following the 2000 high at about 1500, and with a second top at about 1500 in 2007, that index is now nearly double that level – near 3,000. Can anyone remind me of the approach I have seen previously that estimates where the top may lie? Thanks!

Several times over the years, I have seen articles referring to methods for estimating the extent of a rally. As I recall, this used a sum of the previous rally and the subsequent selloff to estimate the extent of the current rally, but I don't remember the details and can't find it again. With the S&P 500 currently at nearly double the level of its 2000 and 2007 tops (1500-1550), I'm wondering if we can estimate where it might turn downward. I suspect we're getting very close to the finale' of this 10-year-long bull market, and want to see if this analysis can be used as a valid rule-of-thumb. Thanks much!

Well I really messed up by holding RH last week going into the earnings announcement after the close. RH missed some of the metrics, and it dropped by $15/share.. around 25%. I usually sell all stocks going into earnings announcements, but missed noting the earnings date on this one. Most stocks will drop maybe 3-10 % on bad earnings, but does anyone have a feel why this stock dropped so dramatically ? Zacks had it rated #2 Buy and raved as to its potential.
