PPO Hist Alert No Signal

Is anyone able to point me in the direction as to why this syntax isn't producing a signal?

[[Symbol is 'SPY']

AND [Yesterday's Daily PPO Hist(5,20,0,Daily Close) > 0.0]

AND [Todays Daily PPO Hist(5,20,0,Daily Close) < 0.0]]

  • If you run it as of 12/17, it works.

Use the calendar tool to select 12/17, then run the scan.

The calendar tool appears when you click on the "0" above the scan writing window, in the phrase

Scan 0 trading days before the ….

  • Thanks for the rapid reply and tip, Mark.

Spy issue is with an alert, not a scan.

Calendar tool sets the anchor date only on scans, but no such calendar feature on alert.

    Thoughts?

OK. Sorry, missed the alert part.

My thought would be that it would not give a signal if the conditions were already true when the alert was run.

So, if you set up the alert 'yesterday', and the condition was not true then, you should get an alert today when it becomes true. In other words, if the alert is pre-existing at today's open, and is running at the open, it should trigger.

But, if you set it up 'today' and it was already true when you enabled it, it should not trigger.

I don't use alerts, so there may be nuances I'm not catching. Hopefully, somebody else will correct me if I'm wrong.

  • Thanks, Mark

I went back and tested a single stand alone qualifier for a signal before adding the second qualifier for the alert.

Creating a two qualifier alert when the actual condition was in between seemed to be the issue.

Can you explain why you don't use "alerts" for portfolio holding signals - and what technique used instead?
